Simon Bowden is an old school friend of mine from 30 years ago. When I heard he had retired from the police force and written his first book, I was curious to read it and see what it was all about. I enjoy crime fiction and police dramas generally. The book was lively and well written, easy to read and flowed well. When the first big plot twist happened I immediately began to speculate how it was going to impact the rest of the story and settled in for a more formulaic read. Fortunately, there were more layers to the story than I originally thought, and as they all began to come together I discovered that the story did not stick to the expected path and took yet another sharp turn. The book kept me reading and hooked till the end and I will keep an eye out for the next in the series to emerge. This was a stellar first effort by the author and showed talent. Great work!
